Humanity has searched for the crystal ball since the beginning of time. Having the ability to forecast the future has been a noble quest; foresight is an extension of this quest. Foresight is the undisclosed element of achievement, because without foresight, humanity cannot live in the present and plan for the future (The Art of Foresight, 2004). A benefit of foresight is that it directly fuel vision and therefore, contributes to new technology, improved educational institutions, a more productive workplace, and humanity’s value system for adapting thinking as a means to create positive results. Foresight is humanity’s crystal ball; today foresight has become difficult because everything in this world is changing more rapidly, the future tends to arrive at the same moment as the present (The Art of Foresight, 2004). This new reality seems to be as if living in the future in humanity’s present.
Advanced technologies, creating and sustaining jobs, access to educational institutions, humanity’s value systems, and cultural mindsets are changing drastically. This constant, drastic change is what makes it difficult to plan the future. A special report from the World Future Society calls these changes “the age of hypercharge”. Hypercharge without vision becomes difficult to react to; thus, challenges and new opportunities are lost. Without vision, people do not understand what change to prepare for, and they become convinced that they have no power over the future, and vision has attributes that can be understood (The Art of Foresight, 2004). These attributes are foundational to what this author has defined as the “3 P’s of Success”.
(P1) Persistence – To never give up; even when it seems hopeless.
(P2) Patience – Take your time to understand the issues even when schedule mandates and emotions run high.
(P3) Passion – Be passionate in everything you do. Create the enthusiasm in everyone you meet!
The final “P” fueled by enthusiasm that becomes our natural crystal ball to the delivering foresight into the future. We are clearly in “the age of hypercharge”; regardless if humanity is ready or not; this forward motion is our mortality and our power into the future, now grasp it, mold it, and make the most of humanity’s pursuit for the crystal ball!
